Garlicky Spicy Tofu

Anne has been trying to beat bronchitis and a sinus infection. She's been craving spicy food and garlic, so this was my answer to that!

1  firm  or extra firm tofu tofu, drained and pressed
cornstarch
1/4 cup neutral oil, like canola or grape seed
1/2 teaspoon salt
20 turns fresh black pepper
10 large garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes (more if you are brave)
1  tablespoon peeled and minced ginger
1 red bell pepper, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 tablespoon soy sauce
3 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon brown sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon water

Drain and press the tofu. Cut the tofu into 1 inch cubes and dredge in the cornstarch.

Heat a large frying pan on high with the oil and add the tofu. Add the salt and pepper and stir fry the tofu so each side gets nicely browned.

Remove and set on some paper towels to drain the excess oil. In the same pan, add the garlic, red pepper, and ginger and cook for a minute or two. Add the red bell pepper and continue to cook for a few minutes. Add the soy sauce, water and sesame oil and allow the mix to cook down. Add back the tofu and stir well coating all the pieces with the sauce. Pour in the sugar and water mixture and stir well to coat.

Serve over some rice and with some Sriracha if you want it spicier!
